The city of Oxford was not incorporated until 1945, although it has been an active settlement since the middle of the nineteenth century. Located on HWY 9 in Izard County, Oxford is about halfway between Melbourne and Salem.
Oxford has two water wells that pump on an average of around 37 million gallons a year and around 50 miles of main lines. This takes a lot of funding and hard work to keep everything running.
Oxford is made up of lots of beautiful forest and pastures! Cattle farming is the way of life for many residents. We also have Everett Brothers INC. just outside our city limits that is a major producer of pork.
The Oxford Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency response services to the Oxford community. The Fire Department's mission is to prevent the loss of life and property. In addition to responding to fires, the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department also responds to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls, and incidents involving hazardous materials.
Oxford has a great city park with a large pavilion and three small ones. It also has a basketball court, playground for children and a baseball field complete with concession stand. Around the Baseball field is a walking track. There is also a community center that is great for birthdays, parties, anniversaries or any other type of event.

Dollar General has come to Oxford and provided us with a great place to shop. Main street has only one shop at this time which is Old Town Charm with lots of great gifts and coffee.

Izard County School District supports more than 500 students and has more than 110 faculty and staff at it's three schools. The school district encompasses 180.09 square miles (466.4 km2) of land, including portions of Izard County and serving communities such as Franklin, almost all of Horseshoe Bend, Oxford, Violet Hill, Brockwell, Wiseman, and Ash Flat.
